What a special time of year! During this third week of advent, we will discuss the birth of baby Jesus and the wonderful holiday season. The students will also explore what it means to be a Catholic at this time of year. There will be no tests or quizzes this week.

Wow! The students did a fantastic job on their definition quizzes last week over units 1-6. The average grade was an A-. Bravo! This week we have an important test over those same units in Vocabulary Workshop. The test emphasizes units 4-6, though there may be words from the first three units as well. We will spend most of the E.L.A. period reviewing independently, with partners, and as a whole group for the test on Thursday. In reading, we will not work out of the Reading Street book, but instead read a special holiday story, listen as Ms. Martelli reads aloud from Tower’s Falling, and have extended independent reading time. I am excited to announce that when we return in January we will begin a novel study of Number the Stars and visit the Holocaust Museum to expand our understanding of the historical time period during which this story takes place. The students should be sure to bring their independent reading book and a yummy snack for E.L.A. each day this week!
Monday- Write a holiday-themed short story using one word from each unit (units 1-6). Be ready to share this story aloud in class tomorrow!
Tuesday- Write or type the synonyms and antonyms for the first 5 words from each unit (units 1-6). Label this assignment “Synonyms/Antonyms Review, Name.”
Wednesday- Study for the test with an emphasis on units 4-6. Have a friend or family member quiz you verbally on the 60 words. Get plenty of sleep and eat a healthy breakfast in preparation for the test tomorrow.
Thursday- Test over Vocabulary Workshop units 1-6
Friday- Have a fantastic Christmas break! See you on Monday, December 7. Remember to read each day for at least 30 minutes.
